Description

Tasting Notes

Interesting herbaceous profile, showing earthy, crushed leaf, components and even agave, but without any green, bitter elements. On the nose, the wine presents vibrant black cherry, cola, black olive and lavender notes. The palate is broad, with red fruited accessibility, and the property’s signature structure and firm tannins. The wine is rich on entry with mouth filling fruit notes, a bold mid-palate and enduring finish.

Winemakers’ Notes

Vines planted in Clovelly top soil. Grapes were destalked and fermented with NT 50 yeast in stainless steel red wine tanks. 4 Pump overs were done each day. After malolactic fermentation the wine was matured in French oak for 23 months.

Kaapzicht was acquired by the Steytler family in 1947 and following a significant refocus beginning in the 1970’s has become an iconic producer. Current Cellarmaster Danie Steytler Jr has recently taken over winemaking from his father and continues the proud record established under Danie Snr.

Food Suggestions

The wine will pair will with rich meat dishes, pasta dishes and cheese based dishes.
