Description

Tasting Notes

The wine shows ripe stonefruit, pineapple, honeysuckle, gunflint and hay on the expressive nose. On the palate the wine is bright with crunchy acid and subtle savory undertones. The wine will develop nicely over the next few years.

Winemakers’ Notes

Old bush vines planted in weathered granite topsoil and crumbly clay sub-soil. Some of the fruit coming from a vineyard planted in1947. Grapes were harvested during the early morning hours in cool temperatures and were given 8-10 hours skin contact. Enzymes were used to help extract flavor’s while on the skins. VIN 7 Yeast was used. Wine lay on the lees for 3 months before being racked, cleaned & bottled.

Kaapzicht was acquired by the Steytler family in 1947 and following a significant refocus beginning in the 1970’s has become an iconic producer. Current Cellarmaster Danie Steytler Jr has recently taken over winemaking from his father and continues the proud record established under Danie Snr.
