Description

Wine Notes

This Tria Corda is a full-bodied wine with aromas of dark fruits, lavender, black olive and spice lead on the nose. The wine is medium to full-bodied with deft integration of the primary fruit notes and secondary barrel conditioning and tannin components leading to a sustained finish. Its structure and rich fruit ensure at least 10 years aging potential.

Winemakers Notes

Vines planted in Deep Hutton and Clovelly soil. Grapes were destalked and fermented for an average of 9 days on the skins at 26C. After fermentation the wine was matured for 18 months in 225L French oak barrels, 60% new and 40% second fill.

The Van Velden family has farmed at Overgaauw since 1768. They started making their own wines in 1905. The southerly facing slopes of the farm provide an ideal environment for growing prime grapes and Overgaauw has become renowned for pioneering work done to produce wines made from noble grapes in the Cape. Today, David Van Velden is responsible for operations at the estate.

Farming some 150 acres of vineyard, David produces wines of outstanding quality and the estate is one of the standard bearers in the Stellenbosch area.

Food Suggestions

The wine is an ideal partner to roasts, grilled meats and cheese based dishes.
